Interview with Julie Marchessault - Orford 3.0
I had the pleasure of meeting with the Coordinator of Orford 3.0, Julie Marchessault, at the Cherry River Marsh Park, located at 2304 chemin du Parc, in Orford.
Initially, Orford 3.0 was an initiative by a group of citizens who received support from the municipality of Orford Township.
They were interested in offering leisure activities in the Orford area, because the only other option at the time was day camp.
The organization offers a wide range of cultural and sports activities, such as:
-Library activity for youth every Saturday morning (“Mon livre”); free craft, nature and
motor development activities, etc.
-History Society-Leisure network: Spanish discussion groups, technological discussion groups, knitting groups, etc.-
Festivities: Fête des Flocons (outdoor winter activities), Spring Festival, Fishing Festival,
courses for thrill seekers, Fall Celebration, Christmas Celebration and Christmas Market.
-Laughter yoga-Soccer-Pilates-Tam Tam Jam (drum sessions)-
Social dancing
Without a doubt, most of the credit for organizing these activities goes to the volunteers. The vast majority of leisure opportunities are attributable to citizens who are committed to providing them and to building ties with their peers. Synergy is at the heart of this project’s success.
Leisure networks are run solely by volunteers who are eager to share their hobbies. Their strengths and skills are essential for success, and Orford 3.0 is evidence of that fact. But we must never forget the key ingredient in this recipe for success: fun!
On the other hand, lack of financing, and the speediness of volunteers versus that of the municipality, can sometimes make things more difficult and burdensome.
We wish a long life to Orford 3.0!

Community Toy Box
Ten municipalities and organizations in the Memphremagog MRC are pleased to offer local residents a Community Toy Box that they can access in one of their area parks. The municipalities of Austin, Eastman, Magog, Saint-Étienne-de-Bolton, East Bolton, Potton Township, Stanstead Township and Stanstead, as well as Orford 3.0 and Ogden’s Weir Park Committee, are joining other municipalities in the Estrie region in offering families intergenerational game materials.
The toy boxes will be installed and available in the summer. They will include a winter kit and a summer kit, and the material will be made available to park visitors. The aim of the project is to encourage young people and their families to rediscover the joy of playing outdoors, to make use of existing parks, and to foster greater social cohesion. Everyone is invited to make proper use of the material, to comply with the rules, and to store the material after use.
Here’s a look at the games and toys you’ll find in parks this summer.
