I had the pleasure of interviewing Mélanie Savoie, the Leisure and Tourism Development Coordinator with the Municipality of Eastman, in order to learn more about the 2017 edition of Plaisirs d’hiver/Winter Fun.
We had arranged to meet at the Parc des sports in Eastman. Mélanie has held this full time position since January of this year. Therefore, the time factor was an added challenge in organizing the event. Given the short timeframe, the involvement of numerous partners, including the Lions Club, Normand Jeanson, Haut Bois Normand and the Eastman road network, was greatly appreciated. The other major challenge, which is an ongoing one, is finding volunteers willing to get involved in the event, which will take place from February 25-28, 2017. There are still positions to be filled!
Because Eastman has adopted “healthy lifestyle habits”, the municipality is proud to offer residents great Winter Fun activities that will give them the opportunity to get active and play outdoors with family and friends. What a good excuse for building ties and enjoying time together! A number of activities will be offered, free of charge, including an introduction to Nordic walking, parent-child snowshoeing and yoga, snowmobile rides, a family obstacle course, skijoring and many others. In addition, a contest will be launched in which Eastman residents can compete for the best snow sculpture! The winner will take home a $100 gift certificate to Haut Bois Normand-Arbre Aventure.
This year, we hope to attract 500 people, but with any outdoor event, we know that Mother Nature is a major factor of success. We hope you’ll join us in Eastman for a chance to get out and play!
